Isolated Landscapes

This body of work investigates the sensation of isolation one experiences within the modern landscape. Though the contemporary landscape is altered by man on a scale never before seen, I believe it is still quite easy to find an ‘empty’ landscape, one devoid of a human presence. This emptiness can be experienced in a remote location, but with the right conditions, can also be detected in even an urbanized area. In these photos, the sense of isolation is made apparent through both composition and an attention to location. We are then reminded of man’s presence and continued effect on the landscape through details large and small, such as power lines, a small road in the distance, or clear-cut trees. It is ongoing.
